1996-2004 Toyota Tacoma Clamshell Bushing
This category covers ECGS Toyota 7.5-inch clamshell bushing products for 1996-2004 Toyota Tacoma 4WD applications. These 1st Gen Tacoma trucks use the earlier Toyota IFS front clamshell differential design, where the driver-side needle bearing can wear and allow CV axle movement.
If your 1996-2004 Tacoma has a front differential vibration, humming, growling, gas-pedal buzz, or “whomp-whomp” noise that changes when shifting between 2WD and 4HI, the driver-side needle bearing may be worn.
This issue can happen on stock trucks, but it is especially common on lifted vehicles with increased CV axle angle. The ECGS PTFE clamshell bushing replaces the factory needle bearing with a bushing designed to better support the driver-side CV axle under side load.
For most DIY installers, the Complete Kit is recommended because it includes the correct 7.5-inch clamshell bushing, removal tool, installation tool, seal driver, and seal components needed for the job.
